Cheltenham Rescheduled Clarence House Chase Update
Cheltenham to Host Rescheduled Clarence House Chase
The much-anticipated Clarence House Chase has been rescheduled to take place a week from this Saturday at Cheltenham Racecourse, following the cancellation of the original Ascot Racecourse fixture due to frozen conditions.
The Grade One two-mile chase, which was set to feature a heavyweight clash between the leading contenders for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival – El Fabiolo and Nicky Henderson’s Jonbon – will now take place on the alternate date.
However, El Fabiolo, the fancied runner, will not be participating in the rescheduled event. Instead, the talented horse will wait for the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase at the Dublin Racing Festival on the first weekend of February, where he won the Arkle Novice Chase last year.
“With no jump racing scheduled in Britain this Saturday, Haydock and Taunton have also been forced to cancel their fixtures due to frozen conditions. The Navan card, which is part of ITV’s coverage, must pass a 7:30 AM inspection to go ahead.”
Lingfield’s Saturday card, which includes the return of Venetia Williams-trained Cheltenham Gold Cup hopeful L’Homme Presse in the Fleur De Lys Chase, will hinge on a 2 PM inspection, as temperatures are predicted to rise over the weekend.
Despite the disappointment of losing the original Ascot clash, jump racing enthusiasts can still look forward to the rescheduled Clarence House Chase at Cheltenham a week from this Saturday.
