Royal Ascot 2024: King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Regal Presence
Aston Racecourse Welcomes Regal Presence: King Charles and Queen Camilla Shine at Royal Ascot 2024
The first day of the prestigious Royal Ascot 2024 saw the King and Queen gracing the Berkshire racecourse, radiating elegance and enthusiasm for the festivities. However, Queen Camilla’s statement headpiece proved somewhat of a challenge, as it briefly obstructed the smooth greeting between the Queen and her niece, Zara Tindall, and her husband Mike.
Nonetheless, the royal party, including the Princess Royal, Peter Phillips, and Lady Gabriella Windsor, arrived in traditional carriage procession, with King Charles, 75, and Camilla proving to be avid racing fans. The couple, who have taken on Queen Elizabeth II’s thoroughbreds, watched with delight as their horse Desert Hero won the King George V Stakes, their first winner at the famous meet as owners.
“We wish all the participants this week the very best of luck in seeking that unique thrill of a Royal Ascot winner.”
The late Queen’s passion for thoroughbreds is well-known, and she had over 20 Royal Ascot winners during her 70-year reign. In a joint statement in the official programme, Charles and Camilla expressed their “immense pleasure and joy” in witnessing Desert Hero’s victory.
As the five-day event commenced, attendees dressed in their finest, from stunning hats and summer dresses to smart suits, eager to cheer on the riders. The carriage procession, which heralded the start of the races, took place in brilliant summer sunshine, setting the stage for an exciting and fashionable Royal Ascot 2024.
Amidst the festivities, there were poignant moments as well. Lady Gabriella Windsor, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, made her first official public appearance since the tragic death of her husband, Thomas Kingston, in February. The event was particularly meaningful for Ella, as she had attended the race with her late husband the previous year.
Royal Ascot 2024 promises to be a thrilling and memorable occasion, with the King and Queen leading the way and setting the tone for a week of exhilarating racing, elegant attire, and cherished moments for the royal family and racing enthusiasts alike.
