Royal Ascot 2023: Thrilling Comeback and Record Payouts Steal the Show
Royal Ascot 2023 Delivers Thrilling Comeback for Lucky Punter
The 2023 Royal Ascot meeting witnessed a remarkable comeback that resulted in a substantial payout for a savvy punter. Jockey Ryan Moore’s masterful ride aboard Fairy Godmother in the Albany Stakes earned a lucky bettor a remarkable £200,000 windfall.
The £100,000 wager on Fairy Godmother, priced at 2-1 by bookmakers Star Sports, looked all but lost when Moore found himself trailing the pack midway through the race. However, the experienced jockey expertly navigated his way through the field, eventually catching and overtaking Heavens Gate in the final furlong to clinch an unexpected victory.
“Big bet alert,” Star Sports had warned on X, formerly Twitter, hinting at the potential for a “fairytale start” for their on-course team.
Their premonition proved accurate, as Moore’s impeccable ride steered Fairy Godmother to the finish line ahead of her stablemate. “When we saw Ryan Moore and Fairy Godmother finding all sorts of traffic, we thought we’d dodged a bullet after laying £100,000 on course at 2-1,” admitted Star Sports Head of PR, Luke Tarr, in an interview with Racing Post. “However, Moore was not to be denied and got his filly up.”
This triumph followed other significant payouts for Star Sports during the Royal Ascot 2023 meeting, including a £100,000 bet on Auguste Rodin at 13-8 and a £20,000 wager on Jayarebe at 13-2. “This week has been one of the toughest Royal Ascots in our history, but this is why we’re here, to take big bets, and we’ll be here tomorrow to do it all again,” Tarr added.
While favorites won the opening two races, the latter part of the day saw underdogs emerge victorious. Jockey Ryan Moore, however, continued his stellar form, securing the coveted Gold Cup aboard Kyprios.
