Inspiral’s Royal Ascot Switch: Prince of Wales Challenge
Inspiral, the Darling of Royal Ascot, Switches Gears for Prince of Wales Challenge
Inspiral, one of the most popular racehorses in training, has been dramatically rerouted and set a new target at Royal Ascot 2023. The five-year-old mare, whose glittering career includes a 2022 Coronation Stakes victory and a stunning Breeders’ Cup triumph last November, was previously the ante-post favorite for the prestigious Queen Anne Stakes.
However, connections have now opted to challenge the outstanding Auguste Rodin in Wednesday’s Prince of Wales Stakes. Trained by the Gosden duo, John and Thady, for Cheveley Park Stud owners, Inspiral’s connections believe the mile-and-a-quarter distance will bring more improvement from the talented mare. As Chris Richardson, the Managing Director of Cheveley Park Stud, explains:
“We’ve been looking forward to stepping her up in trip again after her comeback race over a mile at Newbury in the Lockinge.”
The decision to switch Inspiral’s target has come as a surprise, but the Gosdens have long had the Juddmonte International at York in August as her prime objective for the year. Inspiral’s odds have been slashed for the Prince of Wales Stakes, as she prepares to take on the 2023 Derby champion, Ryan Moore’s Auguste Rodin, in what promises to be a tantalizing Royal Ascot 2023 showdown.
With her royal ascot 2023 victory in the Coronation Stakes and her Breeders’ Cup triumph, Inspiral has cemented her place as a fan favorite. Royal ascot 2024 will undoubtedly be another eagerly anticipated event for this versatile and talented racehorse, as she continues to captivate audiences with her stunning performances.
