Ascot Racecourse 2023-2024: Betfair Ascot Chase, Royal Ascot, and More
Ascot Racecourse Gears Up for Exciting Fixtures in 2023 and 2024
As the 2023 racing season winds down, Ascot Racecourse is already setting its sights on the year ahead, with several noteworthy events and fixtures on the horizon. Among the highlights is the highly anticipated Betfair Ascot Chase, scheduled for this Saturday, which will serve as a crucial test for Ahoy Senor’s Cheltenham Festival aspirations.
Ahoy Senor, the nine-year-old trained by Lucinda Russell, is likely to have his credentials put to the test in the 2m 5f contest, marking the first time he has run in a race shorter than three miles since his steeplechasing debut in October 2021. After two disappointing outings this season, the horse showed much more of his old spark when finishing fourth in last month’s Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham, a performance that can be upgraded due to jockey Stephen Mulqueen being hindered when his stirrups snapped at the fourth-last fence.
Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup Prospects
Ascot Racecourse will also play host to the Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase, where Russell’s Grade One-winning hurdler Apple Again will look to continue his progression over fences. This race could serve as a stepping stone to the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, a race Russell has won for the past two years with the Grand National winner, Corach Rambler.
Meanwhile, trainer Mouse Morris has confirmed that Gentlemansgame is on track for a crack at the Cheltenham Gold Cup, having recovered from an injury that kept him out of the Savills Chase at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting. The grey gelding has not raced since beating Bravemansgame in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on November 4.
Anticipation for Royal Ascot 2023 and 2024
As the royal ascot 2023 and royal ascot 2024 dates draw near, the focus of the racing world will undoubtedly shift to Ascot Racecourse, where the royal ascot dress code will once again be the subject of much anticipation and discussion. Ascot Racecourse continues to be a hub of excitement and high-caliber competition in the world of British horse racing.
